ATTENTION: All singers, dancers, rappers, MC’s- Got talent, “all dressed up- with nowhere to go”? Now you can develop your talent and skills with a program based on the music CD by Detroit area group, “Youth Under Construction,” winner of four National Top-Level Awards. The South Oakland YMCA in Royal Oak continues to support innovative programs that inspire youth to be their best. Many youth learn performing basics and need a platform and an opportunity to "let their light shine." The Youth Under Construction "Show Zone" program does just that. Using a system that places them in a "Performance Matrix," they work together as a team, to create and present at the program's "Closing Concert." This is a well-attended and publicized event, open to the public. The first session of this award-winning program began on Wed., July 11. **NEW** to this course is a Performance Training Video DVD that works with the color coded Matrix to help students prepare in their spare time.
100% of students that have graduated from the course report that it improved their self-confidence as a performer.
Myndi Cason, mother of three youth that enrolled in the program last November states, “There is no other program out there like this. I always felt that there would be someone out there doing what they are doing, ... for years I have been on my kids about the type of music they listen to and the type of messages they’re putting out there in the music and the videos. Some of the content is derogatory to the young ladies and I thank God for Youth Under Construction, and I am very glad my kids were able to be a part of this. It’s a wonderful thing!”
